3月28日，四川大学张兴栋院士在国家生物医学材料工程研究中心606报告厅，面向全国生物材料领域学生、青年学者及广大研究人员作了“Biomaterials: Present and Future”的在线授课。
张兴栋院士的授课属于四川大学生物医学工程学院开设的《国际生物材料名师精品课程》中的第五课。课程内容覆盖生物材料相关基础理论、前沿研究、产品研发和临床应用。目的在于促进我国生物材料科学与工程教育国际化，提高研究生创新思考和英文交流沟通能力，提升学生和青年学者生物材料领域的基础理论和前沿研究水平，了解生物材料医疗产品及其成果转化和临床应用，并针对性地教育学生如何开展研究、撰写研究论文和转化成果。该课程由张兴栋院士亲自倡议和部署，在主管教学的副院长林江莉教授的大力支持下，由美国医学与生物工程院Fellow，国际生物材料科学与工程学会联合会Fellow张凯教授担任课程负责人，具体组织实施，采用线上教学进行，面向国内生物材料领域研究生及青年学者开设。
本学期授课教授由12位国际名师组成，包括James M. Anderson，Arthur J. Coury，David L. Kaplan， Kam W. Leong， Antonios G. Mikos， Leonard Pinchuk 及张兴栋等7位美国国家工程院院士和常江，Helen H. Lu，William R. Wagner， Jian Yang及郑玉峰等5位美国医学与生物工程院Fellow。其中8位名师是生物材料领域中一流学术期刊的主编。
截止目前，美国国家工程院院士、美国生物材料学会前主席，美国东北大学杰出教授Arthur J. Coury教授分别在3月7日和14日做了题为“Biomaterials: History and Status”、“Unintended Biodegradation of Implantable Biomaterials”的专题授课。美国医学与生物工程院Fellow、Science Advance副主编，美国哥伦比亚大学工学院副院长Helen H. Lu教授于3月21日做了“Biointerface”的专题授课。
课程内容深入浅出，精彩纷呈，受到广大学生、青年学者和同行的热烈好评，引起了强烈反响。3000多人在线观看和听课，讨论及点赞3600余次，在直播平台和公众号等网络媒体上引发热烈讨论。
